Recent studies show that floating in salt water calms effects of PTSD. The brain waves of participants achieve a type of flow similar to meditative states, and emotional and psychological rest and health benefits ensue.
Floating in the ocean or in a freshwater pool with a float - both are extremely relaxing. It could be the gentle waves or achieving harmony or balance with a larger body (of water) that calms the spirit. It could also mimic the conditions of the womb and perhaps all these things give psychological comfort.
Sometimes meditation is difficult to master, or we go through times in life when our minds just cannot be still.
Just thinking about those times when I've floated in the ocean, and the oneness I felt with Gaia, Mother Earth, stimulates the gentle brain wave patterns for me.
Meditation is a state of alert yet relaxed mind, a state where the body/mind connection is restored and healing processes are enhanced. It is also a receptive state, and revelation occurs behind the veil of consciousness. When done, and returning to normal consciousness, the meditator will feel refreshed, energized, and often bubbling with new ideas and inspiration!
